Wellness

I have just come across a cool new fitness site called Fabletics (Kate Hudson is a cofounder). The gist: it is a membership based program and you have the option to buy an outfit a month for $49. The cool thing is is that you don’t have to buy the outfit if you don’t want to. The pieces look pretty cool, especially the camouflage pants! Not sure what the fit is like, but I may check it out considering my obsession with Lululemon is extremely expensive!

Let me know what you think or if you tried the line!

detox_motivation

It’s January now, you drank and ate too much and your gut and thighs are feeling a little puffy and flabby. You are tossing around the idea of a cleanse, but they just sound so awful…
Maybe not! Read below to find a cleanse that works for you.

(Important side note: If you see HUGE typos, just ignore as I have a 2 week old baby and am already sleep deprived!)

Cleanse vs. Detox?
They are the same thing. There are just varying types of both.

Cleanses are just marketing ploys, right? My body naturally detoxes on it’s own, right?
Yes our bodies do an amazing job at detoxing on their own, but in the modern world with the amount of toxic exposure, our bodies cannot keep up. For instance, our livers are so busy breaking down phytoestrogens (fake estrogens from plastic etc, that take space on our estrogen receptor sites) that they barely have time to conjugate (break down) our real hormones. This is very dangerous. Hormones are very powerful and need to be broken down and disposed of properly. When the process is disrupted, it makes us vulnerable to many health problems including cancer.

What results can I expect on a cleanse?
In-depth cleanses help your body release toxins and get a deep reset
Improved Energy
Uncovering Food Allergies
Learning how to eat
Better Skin
Better sleep
Mental focus
Mood
Digestion
Immune health
Restore balance & homeostasis
Treat the underlying causes of pain, inflammation, and chronic health issues

What Can I expect?
With any cleanse you will be instructed to remove common food allergens. These foods usually include the top 7:

  • Soy
  • Dairy
  • Grains/Gluten/Wheat/Oats/
  • Corn
  • Tomatoes
  • Citrus Fruits except for lemon, bananas
  • Peanut Butter

Plus..

  • Caffeine
  • Artificial Sweeteners
  • Natural Flavors
  • Sugar

Some cleanses will also have you remove nightshade plants such as yams, potatoes, bell peppers, eggplants, etc.

Most cleanses will have you drink shakes, take supplements and eat a couple of small meals. You should not be too hungry on these cleanses, so your blood sugar will not drop and you won’t feel awful. The supplements are very important because they are cleaning, restoring and supporting.

Some cleanses are purely juice or other concoctions such as lemon and maple syrup. I personally could never do either because I need food on a daily basis! I think a short juice cleanse can be very helpful for allowing the digestive system a break, so that the body can heal itself. I do however like the deep cleanses that really provide deep metabolic cleansing, proper organ support, repair and regeneration.

Cleansing Tips:
• Always make sure you are going numero dos at least 1-2 times a day on a cleanse
• Drink A LOT of water
• If you feel lightheaded, eat small snack of almonds or an additional protein shake
• Follow directions thoroughly or you will not have the intended outcome
• Do not do any cleanse without proper gall bladder support. If your liver cannot release bile via your gall bladder, you will not get rid of all the toxins you are releasing from the cleanse. They will be reabsorbed in to your liver.

Do not cleanse, or talk to your doctor/Naturopath first, if you:
• are pregnant or nursing
• are under the age of 18
• have active cancer
• have liver disease or hepatitis
• have Type 1 Diabetes
• are on medications for bipolar disorder, or
• have an allergy to any ingredients
